Scarlet Blaze MVP
The Scarlet Blaze MVP ('SBMVP') is presented annually to an athlete in Victoria's premier competition who has displayed excellent sportspersonship, athleticism, and Victorian spirit during the regular season.
Scarlet Blaze
The Scarlet Blaze is Victoria's Federation Flower, selected in 2001 to commemorate Australia's Centenary of Federation. It is a blood-red variety of Cinnamon Wattle (acacia leprosa) discovered in a Victorian forest in 1995 by two bush walkers. The Scarlet Blaze is described by the Australian National Herbarium as 'one of the twentieth century's most surprising and significant horticultural discoveries'.
The unique qualities of this flower aptly reflected the unique characteristics desired in a Victorian MVP recipient, and subsequently the Scarlet Blaze was chosen as the name for the award.
The Award
Every new recipient of the SBMVP shall receive a red ('scarlet') robe. This is a special robe awarded once per athlete. Therefore, it is expected that a SBMVP recipient demonstrates appropriate care and respect for their robe.
Athletes who are multiple recipients of the SBMVP shall recieve a patch to be placed on the dominant playing arm of their robe. Each patch represents an element of the Victorian State Badge. Refer to the guidelines below.
