CEO Update: September 2025

ree

September was another busy month for Water Polo Victoria, and we have the full break down below!

2025 National State Championships

56 athletes, 8 coaches, 5 Team Managers, 3 staff and a whole bunch of Vic supporters descended on Canberra for the 2025 WPA National State Championships (15&U/17&U - 29th Sept - 5th October).

Our state program kicked off all the way back in May with initial squad trials, and everyone has been working incredibly hard in the months leading up to the national tournament, and we are proud of all involved in the program. All Vic teams played some great Polo during the week, culminating in a final play off for 5th against ACT in all divisions, where the Navy Blue came away with three wins and one narrow defeat!

You can read all about it here: NSC 2025 Canberra | That's a wrap!

GSV, AGSV & APS Crown Their Champions

Water Polo Victoria congratulate all schools who finished their respective school competitions in September, across all grades! There were hundreds of participants across APS, AGSV and GSV competitions throughout the August/September competition, with Water Polo Victoria supplying the referees for a majority of the matches.

Congratulations to top-division winners in the following competitions:

Girls Sport Victoria: MLC 5 - Loreto 2

AGSV Boys: Melbourne High School 13 - Ivanhoe 6

APS Boys: Caulfield

APS/AGSV Girls: Caulfield

John Mason Memorial Cup

Albury/Wodonga played host to the John Mason Memorial Cup in early October. This senior tournament is a celebration of the passion, teamwork and spirit that John brought to the sport of Water Polo, and it was great to see so many clubs and members of our community get involved with such a great event. Over 15 teams participated in the inaugural event, and we can't wait to see the event grow each year!

A special shout-out to members of NYP and Wodonga, for putting in so much work into putting on such a wonderful tournament, and also experienced referees David Smyth, Gareth Lewis and Indy Nay.

National Water Polo Day (September 13th)

National Water Polo Day (NWPD) is an opportunity to celebrate our community, shine a spotlight on clubs and grow our wonderful game!

This year, NYP, Melbourne Collegians and Geelong held NWPD events and welcomed new participants to come and try Water Polo! We also saw great events and holiday programs happening at Richmond, La Trobe, Monash and others!

Senior Competition

We are over halfway through our Senior Summer State League competition, with teams across our 9 divisions competing to claim the Premiers Flag on the final day!

Our Senior Grand Finals will take place at MSAC, December 6th, so save the date and we will welcome you all there for a packed day of finals action!
