CEO Update: October & November

We are already halfway through November, and it has been a very busy period as we head towards the end of the calendar year!

Below are just a few of the highlights and updates we want to share with the WPV community!

VIC Athletes Named in Preliminary National Age Group Program Squads

After a strong NSC's tournament in Canberra, congratulations to the following athletes who have been named in the preliminary NAGP squads:

16&U Girls: Imogen Booth, Ella Spiteri, Hannah Higgins

16&U Boys: Anthony Rigopoulos, Darcy Lea, Leo Briganti, Jacob Hebden, Liam Hutchinson

18&U Girls: Caroline Healy, Lucy Burchard

18&U Boys: Cassius Allan, Harris Anderson, Seth Booth, Gus Callaghan, Felix Neal, Reuben Teague

Congratulations once again on being selected into these squads.

NAGP Camps in Melbourne

In conjunction with WPA, Water Polo Victoria has been proud to host a series of 3-day NAGP training camps here in Melbourne for a select number of athletes from Victoria, ACT, SA and TAS. We have welcomed WPA national team coaches Harry Sanderson, Fabio Pavanello, John Fox and Adam Richardson to put our female and male athletes through their paces, but to also engage with our local coaching community!

Our female NAGP camp took place from Oct 31 to Nov 2nd, whilst the male NAGP camp takes place Nov 14 to Nov 16th.

It has been awesome to see these camps held here in Melbourne, and a special thanks to Caulfield, MSAC, Xavier and MGGS for playing host to these sessions.

Club Round-Up

Water Polo Victoria clubs have been busy over the last few months, and we wanted to share just some of the great initiatives, events and achievements that are happening in club land.

• NYP won the Whitehorse City Council Sporting Initiative Award for 2025, recognising NYP Dragons for our junior Community Water Polo Program.

• Ballarat Water Polo Club held their 2nd Annual Ballarat Water Polo Cup! There were five clubs involved and 70+ athletes and coaches.

• Mornington Water Polo held multiple Come & Try events for junior participants in Rosebud and along the peninsula., with dozens of junior participants in attendance.

• Melbourne Surge held another successful trivia night, this time with a spooky Halloween theme and over 100 attendees!

• Monash Water Polo participated at the UniSport Nationals on the Gold Coast.

Water Polo Victoria Volunteer of the Year!

Submissions for the WPV Volunteer of the Year, in both Junior and Senior programs, closes on the 19th of November! This award recognises the amazing efforts of the outstanding individuals in our community, who dedicate their time and energy into helping our sport!

Make sure to get your nominee in ASAP!

Senior Competition

We are nearing the end of our Senior Summer State League competition, with teams across our 9 divisions competing to claim the Premiers Flag on the final day!

Our Senior Grand Finals will take place at MSAC, December 6th, so save the date and we will welcome you all there for a packed day of finals action!

Junior Competition

Our Junior Summer Competition has started off, with 41 teams participating in the 2025-26 season across our 6 divisions. We were also excited to have the first three weeks of our 12&U competition as combined bring-a-friend sessions, with all teams mixing together. We saw plenty of new faces, and everyone having fun in a relaxed setting, before the round matches started in Week 4.

Wodonga to host 2026 Vic Countries

We also announced that Wodonga would host the 2026 Victorian Country Championships in 2026! We are excited to be back on the Albury/Wodonga border once again for what is always a great tournament and can't wait to welcome all of our regional clubs and athletes to this exciting event!
