Water Polo Victoria Launches Regional Academy

Water Polo Victoria is excited to announce the launch of the Academy Program for the Albury and Wodonga Region.

With the progressive thinking of Albury City Council in allowing the Albury Swim Centre to be open 12 months of the year the ability to provide the region with an academy has come to fruition.

Aligned Leisure have given their support to the program which will now allow the next generation of Water Polo stars to train locally through the week.

The program will align with the Academy/Development programs being delivered currently by Water Polo Victoria, however will be combined in the inaugural term program.

The Academy Program enables Water Polo Victoria to support our athletes who are on the elite pathway, as well as provide extra training sessions and coaching support for all athletes as they develop their game.

The Development program enables Water Polo Victoria to provide younger athletes (11+) a space to continue to build their foundational Water Polo skills and develop their understanding of the game from our coaching team.

Sessions are mixed gendered and will likely take place on Monday and Wednesday afternoons at Albury Swim Centre.

Simon Devine (Water Polo Victoria CEO) is delighted that Water Polo Victoria is now able to support our regional athletes on the border.

"This opportunity was borne on the back of Albury Council initiative to open the pool all year. We are now able to provide a similar program for those athletes on the border as those in metropolitan Melbourne. This will provide border athletes with a better opportunity in the High Performance area".

"This also provides a chance for coaches in the region to be involved in a program which will lead to more opportunities for being involved in State Teams".

If you are interested in being involved in the academy (as an athlete or a coach), please complete the EOI. Further details will be communicated around the middle of March with hopefully some coaching announcements.
