Relaunch of the Academy Program Term 2 and 3

The Academy of Excellence program at Water Polo Victoria is being relaunched from the first week of May, 2022. Targeting age groups from 08, 07, 06 and 05 born to foster and grow the cohort for State Team programs, Nationals, and high performance pathways. WPV want to foster growth for those born 08 and younger at a club level. Each age group will be offered one training per week, with the fourth training being designed for scrimmage between the age groups to develop game play familiarity.

The Academy of Excellence training sessions will be skills based focus and the program will revolve around various elements of skills required for gameplay. The ideology is to foster and grow athlete’s skills within their age groups that they will then be competing in for Nationals. Academy is designed to compliment club training, not replace it. Squad sizes per age group will vary in size depending on numbers and skill level. Being selected for Academy does not guarantee you selection on the State Team, as well as not being selected for Academy does not mean you will not be eligible for State Teams. It is expected that once State Teams are in training that all state team athletes will also attend their designated Academy training.

The first two weeks of Academy will act as trials for the squads that will be selected for training. The week starting 2nd of May and 9th of May will act as trials with squad selection occurring after the last Friday for this fortnight period. Athletes will be notified of selection over the weekend.
